May 11 - Miss Gibraltar And Afterhours Release Charity Single In Aid Of Calpe House

Miss Gibraltar contestants continue to drum up support for the new Calpe House appeal with the release of a charity single.

Stage One has teamed up with the show’s resident band Afterhours to release the charity single – Our Home.  The single was officially launched by Minister for Health John Cortes at a reception yesterday evening.

The original song, penned by Tim Garcia, with music by Afterhours features all nine Miss Gibraltar contestants.  The song focuses on the well-known Calpe House motto “our home away from home” and is also meant as an inspiration for those going through treatment.

Stage One producer James Neish said: “I’m very proud of this project and the team who has worked so hard on it.  Building the new Calpe House is a community project and I’m full of admiration for the contestants who have embraced this with the importance it deserves.

"Their work has helped raise some funds for it but more importantly I hope it’s created increased awareness on the needs and vital work undertaken by Calpe House.

“I hope the people of Gibraltar find the song quite fitting."

Tim Garcia said: “The song's inspiration is the Calpe House itself and its continuing role in serving our community, not only as a place of shelter during dark medical days, but as a comforting source of emotional and physical respite by truly being our home away from home.

"It's been our privilege and a pleasure to write and record this song as our small contribution towards the Calpe House in its own hour of need."

Family and friends of the contestants, their sponsors and Calpe House representatives were all treated to an exclusive preview of the music video produced by GibMedia, and also saw contestants walk the runway for the first time in public in two different looks kindly donated by Trends Gibraltar for the event.

The music video will be released in seven days time and organisers are hoping the launch will encourage people to be a part of the video and send in their Calpe House pictures. You can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

A premium line will also be announced with the music video to help raise further funds for Calpe House, and bidding for a Mario Finlayson painting worth £3,000 has started at £2,000 with all proceeds going towards the refurbishment of Calpe House.
