May 23 - Clubhouse Gibraltar Say Thank You To The Community For Their Support

Clubhouse Gibraltar would like to thank the community of Gibraltar for their tremendous support on this year's wear yellow day in support of mental health awareness. 

A statement from the charity read: 

Clubhouse Gibraltar has run a very successful Mental Health Awareness and Fund raising campaign this year.  The campaign started with the launch of their Annual Report on Thursday 12th May at a presentation in John Mackintosh Hall and this was followed by Wear Yellow day on Friday 13th May in which many schools and organisations participated and also collected funds for the ongoing work provided by Clubhouse Gibraltar up to 50 hours weekly. On Saturday 14^th May the Annual Walk was held from The Convent to Casemates where a very successful Family Fun, Fundraising and awareness Day was held.

The Casemates event was a huge success in many respects. It began with the arrival of the Yellow walk from The Convent to Casemates accompanied by The Gibraltar Re-Enactment Association. The Gibraltar Government showed their support with four ministers participating in the walk, i.e. the Chief Minister, Minister Sacramento, Minister Cortes and Minister Linares.  At Casemates the Chief Minister, Minister Sacramento, and Minister Cortes as well as Emily Adamberry Olivero CEO and a Clubhouse member Tracey Spiteri went up on stage to address the public. The Chief Minister affirmed Governments support with a special mention of the issue of premises whilst Clubhouse representatives thanked the community of Gibraltar for their overwhelming and on-going support. Also, attending the event was His Excellency The Governor, Leader of the Opposition, Daniel Feetham and member of the opposition Laurence Llamas.

Not only did the day create awareness and enabled fund raising, there was a lot of first hand involvement by many different sectors of the Gibraltar Community. The age span ranged from the youth to the elderly. There was youth actively involved beforehand making things both from the Gibraltar Youth Services who provided a huge cake stall and face painting and the MOD Top Rock Youth Group sold handicrafts, up scaled jewellery and books. Service users from the Waterport Senior Citizens Day Centre made lovely yellow felt flowers with positive thought messages attached, these were also sold on the day at The Care Agency stall. The Gibraltar Health Authority was also on hand providing information and advice on their stall.

Monique Sanchez provided her own very special style of Face painting in support of Clubhouse and was kept busy all day.

Clubhouse Gibraltar had their own stall full of information, merchandise and of course the raffle tickets. Clubhouse members participated in all aspects of the day. Including helping with the raffles, sharing their Clubhouse and Mental Health experiences with the general public. Also, joining in fun activities such as Zumba and dancing to the DJ music and the Valerga Brothers.

The Psychological Support Group provided the duck stall which is very popular with the children. Another popular feature was the Jumping Castle. Grand Home Care, the main sponsor of the event not only gave financial support but also provided yellow wristbands and promoted their new mini bus service which is available free for worthy causes. The ‘beauty with a purpose’ motto was put into practice by the reigning Mrs Gibraltar 2015 and the 13 contestants for Mrs Gibraltar 2016. Their beauty and charm helped to sell many raffle tickets throughout the day.

Saffron Restaurant provided a food stall with free samples for people to taste.

Daniel Guerrero from the Ministry of Culture did a great job in coordinating all the stage acts and activities. Danza Academy and Gibraltar Mediterranean Dance group provided dancing and Zumba provided by Janine Pereira and Erica McGrail. The public were encouraged to join in and dance throughout the day. The day’s live music entertainment culminated with The Valerga Brothers, Denis and Henry which attracted people back to the dance floor.

The raffle prizes were drawn by the beauty queens and also by His Excellency the Governor who was very impressed and interested in the event and organisations present on the day.
