Jun 28 - Global Photo Competition Launched As Part Of Yacht Rally

The organisers of the Ocean Village and Boatshed Yacht Rally want to use the event to put Gibraltar even more firmly on the global travel map. They are doing this with a social media photo competition open to everyone on the planet.

They want to show that Gibraltar is the place to visit even when compared with all the other Wonders of the World. The rules of the competition are simple as follows:

  1. Submit photos of someone holding up (or next to) a sign with the hashtag #VisitGibraltar written on the sign. This can be at any iconic location in the world i.e. in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Machu Picchu in Peru, or why not the Rock of Gibraltar itself! Why not introduce a Gibraltar flag into the photo too?

  2. Publish the photos on Twitter or Instagram using the 3 hashtags #VisitGibraltar #GibYachtRally #TheRockHotel.

  3. The competition starts at 13:00 on the 8th July and ends on the 23th October with the announcement of the winner timed to coincide with the start of the Team Britannia Challenge and Trafalgar Day celebrations.

  4. The judges will be appointed by the Gibraltar Tourist Board and their decision will be final.

On Friday the 8th July at 1pm you will see the impressive sight of 40 to 50 yachts of all shapes and sizes powering their way out of the Bay of Gibraltar bound for Port Smir in Morocco.

The flotilla will be escorted out into the Straits by HMS Sabre of the RN Gibraltar Squadron. The participants in the rally are heading for a weekend of boating and shore based fun.

Last year the rally raised nearly £7000 for the Red Cross and the organisers are pulling out all the stops to exceed that amount. This would not be possible without the generosity of the sponsors and participants.

The winner will receive a two night free stay (including breakfast) at Gibraltar’s iconic Rock Hotel. Get clicking! (Full rules of the competition available at www.facebook.com/BoatshedGib)
