Aug 30 - Charity Sky Dive Cheque Presentation

A cheque presentation took place this afternoon at Bruno’s to distribute the proceeds of a charity sky dive. The Prostate Cancer Support Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society each received a cheque for £5,189.

The event was the brainchild of two old school friends (Michelle Manning and Maria Palma) - this is now their second charity sky dive in two years.

Some of the funds were donated by corporate sponsors with the rest being raised via online campaigns and by the skydivers in order to participate in the challenge.

Speaking to YGTV, Michelle said that her second sky dive was just as nerve-wracking as the first: “It’s not really any easier – the nerves are still there but when you get up there you’re so pumped and the adrenaline’s flowing, you just do it together.”

The duo raised almost £17,000 last year for breast cancer and Cancer Relief but felt that they needed to help out two different causes this time round.

“We wanted to do something for a cause that helps men this time. We’ve also got many friends whose relatives have Alzheimer’s or have passed away due to Alzheimer’s,” said Michelle.

Maria added: “The money will go towards furnishing the new day care centre and give a lot of help to those families that are struggling every day with dementia and Alzheimer’s.”

The pair are keen to repeat the event next year so join their Facebook group to keep up with news about future dives: https://www.facebook.com/groups/805086449554574/
