Jul 29 - Extreme Fundraising with Swasie Turner

swasie turner Fundraiser and former Police Office Swasie Turner today visited the Chief Minister as part of his visit to Gibraltar to raise funds and carry out a wheelchair push up the Rock. Mr. Turner tragically lost his leg due to an act of violence in the line of duty, and then shortly after, his wife passed away due to cancer. From then, Mr. Turner became dedicated to the cause, finding himself carrying out the mist eccentric fundraising activities that have seen him and his standard NHS wheelchair travel across the World.

A former Marine, Mr. Turner is not afraid to push himself to his limits, with his rock run being completed in an admirable 4 hours. The event was supported by the RGP, who Swasie paid tribute to during his meeting with the Chief Minister, for all their hard work and effort. A donation of his raised funds will go towards the Force, along with the Royal Marines Association.

During his meeting with Mr. Picardo, Swasie touched upon his plight to ‘assist the bettering of facilities for the disabled fraternity’, which has lead to his association with Level Access Lifts, who provide lifts for the less able. Mr. Turner went on to promise Mr. Picardo that he is willing to help aid the disabled in Gibraltar, through any means.

The Chief Minister spoke of the Government’s works on beach accessibility, allowing for disabled members of the community to access all areas of the beaches, more easily. During their meeting, Mr. Turner also paid tribute to the Governor, the Mayor and his assistant and the Gibraltar Regiment who he described as ‘the epitome if smartness.

Swasie’s next adventure is set to take him to a Charity Fundraising ball in Chatsworth House in the UK, in an effort to raise funds for Care of Police Survivors.
