May 04 - Rotary Celebrates Fiftieth Anniversary

The Rotary Club of Gibraltar is celebrating its 50th year since the organisation was first inaugurated here on the Rock. To mark this occasion, the Club is putting on a concert in the spectacular St Michael’s Cave on May 14th.

The Rotarians are sharing their anniversary with the James Bond film franchise, which is also celebrating its 50 year anniversary. The Rotary Club event will present well-known James Bond musical numbers from Goldfinger to Skyfall and many other films throughout the years. This exciting concert will feature the Gibraltar Military Band plus a fabulous Shirley Bassey tribute act from UK, the Gibraltar National Choir  featuring Millie, the Danza Academy, Philip Valverde and his Jukebox Band, and Gibraltar's very own 007 - Henry Sacramento - as compere.

The Rotary Club of Gibraltar says it would like to thank their generous sponsors for all their support for the memorable evening at St Michael's Cave. These include Lewis Stagnetto, William Hill, Capurros, Attias & Levy, Alwani Group and Khubchands. The Rotary Club would also like to thank Steven Linares, Minister for Sports, Culture, Heritage and Youth, and his team for their help and support for this event.

Dame Shirley Bassey will be impersonated by a well-known tribute star. She will play a big part in the concert and the club is pleased to introduce her as Carolyn Rowe, deemed Dame Shirley Bassey Tribute Royalty by the National Press for her interpretation of Dame Shirley Bassey's complex character and collection of iconic gowns.

She has received critical acclaim from Dame Shirley's concert promoters both in UK and in the USA. Carolyn's credibility was further enhanced in 2011 by Dame Shirley's longest serving Musical Director, Michael Alexander who said: "Carolyn gives a great vocal impression you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.”

For avid James Bond enthusiasts, the Sunborn Hotel will also be hosting an explosive kind of charity evening on the following day, May 15th, at the fabulous Aurora Ballroom. A night of glamour, sophistication and live entertainment with Carolyn Rowe.

A spokesperson said: “If you love Shirley, you must see Carolyn, it is truly a Dame Shirley Bassey concert. Carolyn Rowe weaves her magic over her audience leaving them spellbound as they are propelled back in time to relive memories of those unforgettable classics, Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger.

“If the assignment excites you and you are operational on May 14th  for the St Michael's Cave Concert please shake up your Martinis and join in this unique and spectacular night Bond night.”
