Jul 30 – Essential Services Walk Raises £7400 For Charity

The annual Essential Services Charity Walk, which was held in February this year, raised £7400 for charity.

The money was equally distributed between four local charities who each received a cheque for £1850 during a recent presentation at the Customs Recreation Club.

Representatives from four of the Essential Services presented the cheques; GDP Chief Police Officer Rob Allen presented a cheque to the Prostate Cancer Support Group Gibraltar, RGP Chief Inspector Cathael Yates presented a cheque to Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar, Collector of Customs, Mr John Rodriguez presented a cheque to Baby STEPPS and Mr Francis Silva from AquaGib presented a cheque to Mount Alvernia.

Gibraltar Defence Police Officer, Sergeant Romany Cortes, who is part of the Essential Services Committee, said: “The Committee would like to thank family, friends, local businesses, participants and their employers for their generosity, without whom, none of this would be possible.”

The Essential Services Committee organised their first walk in 1996 and to date have raised a total of £99,675 for local charities.

The Essential Services Committee are made up of representatives from AquaGib, Borders & Coastguard, Customs, GDP, GHA, GibTelecom, GSLA, Interserve and the RGP.
