Apr 25 – Three Men Arrested And Charged Following Beaching Of RHIB At Catalan Bay

Three men have been charged this morning following their arrest by RGP and HM Customs officers last night.

The incident followed a call received from the Guardia Civil advising the RGP of a chase at sea off the eastern side of BGTW. It is alleged that, during the chase, the occupants of a rigid hull inflatable vessel [RHIB] jettisoned their cargo of drugs in Spanish waters.

Whilst local maritime assets were responding to this call, the RHIB in question beached at Catalan Bay, with its occupants escaping on foot.

All three occupants were arrested by RGP & HM Customs officers following searches of the area of Catalan Bay village and Sir Herbert Miles Road.

The men were later processed and interviewed at New Mole House, and charged as follows:

       · Juan Miguel RONDON LEON, aged 23, a resident of Algeciras, Spain

       · Daniel RAMIREZ ALCONCHEL, aged 26, a resident of Algeciras, Spain

       · Juan Carlos FERNANDEZ GARCIA, aged 24, a resident of Algeciras, Spain

All three men were charged with one count of importing a prohibited import, with RONDON LEON and FERNANDEZ GARCIA additionally charged with one count of being in Gibraltar without a valid permit or certificate.
