Aug 05 - Hammerhead Shark Sighting Off Sandy Bay

Red flags have gone up at beaches along the east coast of Gibraltar after a hammerhead shark was sighted 150 meters off the coast of Sandy Bay today.

The Royal Gibraltar Police marine section is liaising with lifeguards and bathers are being urged not to swim in the sea as hammerhead sharks can be quite vicious.

A spokesman for the RGP said they have lost sight of the hammerhead shark but the RGP are currently monitoring the situation and precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
