Aug 30 - Tobacco Arrests Following Car Chase

Two local men aged 45 and 27 have been arrested for being knowingly concerned in the attempted exportation of cigarettes, dangerous driving and obstructing police, amongst other offences.

The arrests follow an incident in the early hours of Friday 19th August, during which a locally registered vehicle failed to stop when challenged by patrol officers and resulted in a high speed pursuit through Europort, Waterport, Queensway and the area of New Harbours Industrial Park, where the vehicle was eventually abandoned.

The vehicle, a total of 15 cases containing 150,000 cigarettes valued at approximately £12,000 and a radio transceiver were seized by Area Response Team officers.

Both men are currently on Police bail pending further enquiries.
