Sep 23 - Local Businessman Pleads Not Guilty To Fraud Charges

A local businessman who was hired as a bailiff on behalf of the Government pleaded not guilty to one count of fraud by false representation and two counts of fraud by abuse of position at the Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Daniel Linares, 37, of Horse Barrack Lane, is accused of retaining more than £2,500 while acting as a bailiff on behalf of the Government on two separate occasions in 2014.

It is also alleged Linares fraudulently issued a cheque worth more than £10,000 to the Government of Gibraltar as the managing director of a local security company.

The docket of evidence was requested and Linares, who was represented by Chris Finch and Craig Fortunato. He will appear at the Magistrates’ Court again on the 16th November.
