Oct 24 - Man Cleared Of Attempted Rape

A 27-year-old man has been found not guilty of attempted rape and not guilty of trespass with the intent to commit a sexual offence by a jury at the end of a Supreme Court trial.

Karim Rudge had maintained his innocence throughout the trial. However, he still faces one charge of possession of a bladed article to which he had already pleaded guilty.

The Chief Justice Anthony Dudley said it was inappropriate to grant Rudge bail at this stage, stating that there were a number of aggravating factors. He has been on remanded since his arrest in March earlier this year.

Rudge will be sentenced on Thursday 17th November at 10am. A pre-sentence report was requested by his defence lawyer Elliott Phillips, who is assisted by Danielle Victor. Robert Fischel QC and Mark Clive Zammitt appeared for the Crown.
