Mar 30 – Three Arrested At Sea – RHIB Impounded
Three Spanish nationals were arrested last night by RGP marine officers.
As a result of information received, an RGP interceptor vessel made its way to an area approximately two miles west off Europa Point where they sighted a nine-metre RHIB with three individuals on board.
The vessel, which was which fitted with radar equipment and was powered by two 350hp V8 outboard engines, attempted to evade the RGP vessel, but after a short chase into the Bay, it gave up.
The RHIB was boarded by police and all three persons on board where arrested and conveyed to New Mole House.
The three men have been charged as follows and will be appearing in court this morning.
Manuel Mesa Gonzalez, a 40-year-old resident of Algeciras is charged with Importing a Prohibited Import.
Victor Manuel Fillero Sanchez, a 29-year-old resident of Algeciras is charged with Operating a Fast Launch and Importing a Prohibited Import.
Adrian Arroyal Garcia, a 27-year-old resident of La Linea is charged with Importing a Prohibited Import.
The vessel has been impounded.
Busy Week
Royal Gibraltar Police Marine crews have been deployed in response to a total of nine reports of suspect Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) activity since this Monday 26th March.
These vessels are typically used by drug traffickers in their illicit operations across the Strait of Gibraltar.
Of these deployments, three resulted in the RGP vessels engaging in high speed pursuits within BGTW, one of which resulted in the arrest of these three individuals.
