Sep 19 - RGP Seize 70,000 Cigarettes
Two incidents this week saw the RGP seize a total of 70,000 cigarettes. The first case saw the Marine section intercept two 3 metre RHIBS smuggling tobacco at the East Side reclamation. As the RGP interceptor moved in, persons scattered the scene and six boxes of tobacco were seized on board one of the RHIBs.
Officers on land located a further two 3 metre RHIBS and arrested a locally resident British National. This person has been bailed out to appear at New Mole House police station on the 12th November 2014.
Another case saw the RGP follow a Spanish registered car along Devil’s Tower Road and onto Eastern Beach Road. On seeing the police presence the occupants of the car abandoned the car and fled across the beach into Spain. 10,000 cigarettes were seized from the vehicle.
