Sep 26 - RGP Warning After Online Banking Thieves Target Locals
The Royal Gibraltar Police has recently received reports regarding the illegal access and theft of monies from customers’ online banking accounts.
The modus operandi used to access the accounts is by a telephone call made by a person identifying themselves to the victims as an employee of a bank, followed by requesting security answers and customer numbers corresponding to the personal bank account[s]. With the use of this information the individual[s] then illegally access the account, after which monies are transferred to another account out of jurisdiction and without the consent of the victims.
The Royal Gibraltar Police would like to advise the public that banks do not request such information from customers either online or over the telephone, and therefore members of the public are urged to disregard any such contact.
