Sep 29 - Police Commendations Following Cannabis Seizure

Following the RGP/GDP seizure of 570 kilos of Cannabis Resin at sea on the 6th September both defendants have since appeared in court and pleaded guilty.

Constantine PASCARU, aged 20 years, a Rumanian National.
Oscar MORALES PINERO, aged 35, a Spanish National resident of La Linea. Were jointly charged with:

- Possession of a Controlled Drug (570 kilos of Cannabis Resin)

- Possession of a Controlled Drug With Intent to Supply (570 kilos of Cannabis 
Resin)

- Importing a Prohibited Import (570 kilos of Cannabis Resin)


PINERO was further charged with:

- Dangerous Navigation

- Obstructing Police

- Possession of 1 gram of Cannabis Resin


Both are awaiting sentencing at the Supreme Court. 


The following officers were commended by the Commissioner of Police Edward Yome: 
RGP PC 79 Joseph Cassaglia was commended for: 
“Keen observation and effective action leading to the seizure of 570 Kgs of Cannabis Resin. The defendants in the case R v Oscar Morales Piñero and Constantin Radu Pascaru having pleaded guilty in court.”


GDP PCs 28 Karl Walsh, 46 Christian Durante and 61 Daniel Hemmi were commended for: 
“Diligent and effective action at sea, in dangerous and challenging circumstances, leading to the seizure of 570 Kgs of Cannabis Resin. The defendants in the case R v Oscar Morales Piñero and Constantin Radu Pascaru having pleaded guilty in court.”
