Nov 10 – Man On Trial For Violent Attack On His Partner

The trial of a locally resident German national accused of beating his partner started this morning at the Supreme Court.

Hans Con is charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charge relates to an incident which took place on the 15th December 2013 when Con is alleged to have hit his partner repeatedly at home after a drinking session at the Red Lion pub.

As a result of what the Crown described as a “brutal struggle”, Con’s partner sustained two black eyes, extreme swelling to her face and bruising and cuts to her head and lips. The prosecution says that there was “blood all over the house” after the assault.

Injured, bleeding and in a state of shock, the victim then made her way to a friend’s house in Watergardens where the RGP and Ambulance Service attended.

The couple had what was described as a “violent and tempestuous relationship” fuelled by excessive drinking.

Con denies that he had anything to do with the attack and claims that his partner was instead attacked outside their residence.

Con is represented by Francis Borastero-Porter. Johan Fernandez appears for the Crown.

The trial is being heard by Puisne Judge Karen Prescott and is expected to conclude later this week.
