Dec 16 - RGP Allegations Will be Found to be Unsubstantiated Says Commissioner Yome

rgpRGP Commissioner Eddie Yome has welcomed the fact that, in agreement with His Excellency the Governor, the Chief Minister, invoking powers under Section 15(1)(a) of the Police Act 2006, has requested a factual enquiry on the allegations made against RGP Officers, and the force as a whole, following a recent selection weekend.

He has claimed that ‘serious allegations such as these must be treated appropriately’ although he believes that the allegations will be found to be unsubstantiated.

A statement released by the RGP this afternoon insists that it would be inappropriate for them to comment further on the matter ‘whilst this factual enquiry is ongoing; and also to avoid prejudicing any form of redress that the organisation or the individual officers concerned may seek’.

The statement concludes, ‘these allegations come at a time when under Commissioner Yome’s stewardship, the RGP, has reported year on year decreases in overall crime, maintained exceptionally high detection rates and enjoyed increasing public satisfaction levels; all in a difficult and often politically charged policing environment. This is exclusively due to the incredibly hard work RGP officers undertake for the community they are a part of and serve. It is disappointing that some would wish to divert attention from these facts.’
