Mar 06 - Same Shop Hit Twice In Two Days By Police Anti-Smuggling Operation
A shop which sells cigarettes in the Town area has been raided twice in just 48 hours by the RGP resulting in numerous arrests.
The first operation took place at 5am on 4th March when police arrested three Spanish nationals: one, a female employee of the shop, and two males. The employee is suspected of having been in the process of illegally selling a commercial quantity of cigarettes. All three were subsequently released on police bail.
Last night, at around 11pm, the very same shop was visited by the RGP and six people were arrested on suspicion of being knowingly concerned in the attempted exportation of cigarettes with five of these also arrested for the possession of a commercial quantity of cigarettes in a Special Zone. The same Spanish female employee was arrested on suspicion of being in breach of a tobacco retail licence.
The suspects have not yet been charged and, at this point, the shop cannot be identified for legal reasons.
