Mar 30 – Family Of Four Found Dead – RGP Launches Murder Investigation

A family of four were found dead in a flat in Boschetti’s Steps this morning by RGP Officers. The lifeless bodies of a 31-year-old British male, a 37-year-old Spanish female and two Spanish girls – one a four-year-old, the other a six-week old baby – were found at 11:35am after police broke down the door.

The identity of the victims cannot yet be revealed as not all family members have been informed but it has been confirmed that the British national is not from Gibraltar.

The RGP has launched a full and comprehensive investigation and has stated that it is not searching for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Two Home Office pathologists – one of them a paediatric pathologist – are arriving tomorrow from the UK to conduct post-mortems. The deaths are so far being described as “unexplained” and “not from natural causes”.

The Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome said this was “a unique event for Gibraltar”. He appealed for any witnesses or anyone who has any information to come forwards and contact the RGP Duty Officer on 200 72500. He also urged people to refrain from social media speculation in order to allow the police to conduct the inquiry.

He praised the “very professional team” that had attended the scene and initiated the forensic investigation. Referring to the disturbing nature of the scene, he said that officers were already making use of the RGP’s counseling service. He said he did not wish to expose those officers who did not need to be at the scene to what he had witnessed.

More updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
