Apr 17 - BREAKING: Whitfield Found Guilty Of All Charges – Child Rape Case Ends

A local man accused of raping and sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl has been found guilty at the Supreme Court this afternoon after a five-day trial.

The jury delivered its unanimous verdict after five hours of deliberation and found that Kevin Norman Whitfield, who was a serving GSP officer at the time of the offences, sexually abused and raped the daughter of his former partner.

Puisne Judge Karen Prescott ordered that he be remanded in custody at HMP Windmill Hill with immediate effect given the seriousness of the offences. Ms Justice Prescott also ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report ahead of a sentencing hearing which is set for 29th May.  

The incidents occurred during an eight-month period in 1999 when Whitfield lived with his partner and her daughter in their family home in Vineyards.

Whitfield was found guilty of the following charges: Two counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13; two counts of causing or encouraging or assisting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity; two counts of rape of a child under the age of 13. He maintained his innocence throughout.

Whitfield was represented by David Dumas QC, assisted by Kenneth Navas. Ricky Rhoda QC and Johann Fernandez appeared for the Crown, and Puisne Judge Karen Prescott heard the trial.
