May 22 – Commissioner Of Police Invited To Conference In The Caribbean

The Commissioner of Police, Eddie Yome has recently returned from the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and Nevis where he was an invited guest of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) Conference.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Community Policing - Delivering Quality Policing Service” - a subject very close to Commissioner Yome’s heart.

There were a number of presentations from people from both the public and private sectors, mostly touching upon areas such as community policing, building trust and enhancing community and police relations. Other subjects discussed were those of human trafficking and illegal migration, which are relevant here in Europe.

Commissioner Yome’s invitation to the conference was a follow-up to his intervention earlier this year, via video conference, in an Overseas Territories meeting held in Miami. In that meeting, Commissioner Yome had provided members, at their request, with an overview of his vision in relation to the development of policing in the Overseas Territories, specifically in matters of mutual aid and crimes committed on British registered ships around the world.

This intervention resulted in the invitation to the St. Kitts and Nevis conference where Commissioner Yome’s intervention has resulted in a request for him to continue as a member of the Overseas Territories Commissioners and specifically to assist and advise the Commissioner of the Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force with his maritime portfolio.
