  • Government Disappointed at EU Parliament Delisting Vote

The Government says it notes, “with disappointment”, the European Parliament’s objection, today, to the entry into force of the European Commission’s decision to remove certain jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, from the EU’s list of ‘high-risk’ third-countries with strategic deficiencies as regards anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (“AML/CFT”).

Jun 30 - Crime Awareness Week: Bicycle Theft

Follow these tips to keep your bicycle safe!

Bicycles are often the easiest vehicles for thieves to target.

You can protect yours by following some simple steps:

  • ALWAYS lock your bicycle, even if you’re planning on leaving it unattended for just a few minutes.

  • Buy a good quality D-lock or combination lock.

  • Keep a note of your bicycle’s serial number/manufacturer’s details and
consider using a UV pen to record your personal details on the frame.
(In the event of theft / subsequent recovery by Police, this information will be extremely valuable). See our “Stay Safe Bike Card” on our website.

  • Keep a photograph of your bicycle at home; this can be useful for identification if stolen/recovered by Police.

  • Lock your bike to something secure and immovable, such as a bicycle rack.

  • When leaving your bicycle unattended, lock both wheels and where possible, remove any expensive attachments that could be stolen easily without tools.

Bicycle Security

  • Consider getting your bicycle frame security-marked (We will be announcing details of a marking scheme shortly).

  • At home, keep your bicycle out of view in a secure garage/shed/store, and keep the door locked.

  • Try and avoid isolated places when possible; leave and secure your bicycle in an area where a potential thief can be seen by others.

Recommended method of securing your bicycle

The RGP will shortly be embarking on a bicycle secure-marking campaign aimed at disrupting opportunistic bicycle thieves and assisting in identifying any stolen property recovered by Police. Details on this initiative will be announced soon.

We would like to take this opportunity to request the general public that any persons seen acting suspiciously in the vicinity of a residence/estate/public bicycle rack are reported to the RGP Command & Dispatch Unit on 20072500, or in the event of an Emergency, by dialling 199/112.

Look after one another and work in partnership with us to beat crime. Be a vigilant neighbour and report anything suspicious in your neighbourhood. All calls are dealt with in the strictest confidence. The following information will be particularly useful to police when reporting on a suspicious individual(s).

· Gender (Male/Female)

· Height
· Complexion (e.g. Tanned, Fresh, etc)
