Jul 27 - Man Pleads Guilty To Child Abduction

A man has pleaded guilty to one charge of child abduction at the Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Karim Rudge was arrested on Friday after taking an 11-year-old child to Spain.

Appearing for the Crown, Ricky Rhoda QC said that Rudge took the child to Spain to take him to the fair without permission from his mother.

The defendant was seen by a police officer at the frontier, and on crossing the border Rudge and the child took a taxi. The taxi driver was concerned after Rudge reportedly abandoned the child in the taxi for an hour, and contacted the Spanish authorities, who alerted local officers.

Rudge, 26, was remanded in custody and pleaded guilty to two charges, namely child abduction and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by having unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 16.

This order was originally imposed last year when Rudge was sentenced for having sex with an girl under the age of 16.

A pre-sentence report has been requested and Rudge will next appear at the Magistrates’ Court on 13th August.
