Jul 30 - Man Accused Of Raping Child Remanded In Custody

A man has denied all charges of allegedly raping a teenage girl on a number of separate occasions over the past six years. The most recent incident is alleged to have taken place as recently as last week.

James George Bell, from Boyd House in Laguna Estate, was remanded in custody at the Magistrates’ Court today, because of the seriousness of the charges.

Bell was arrested yesterday and today faced eight charges including two counts of rape, two counts of rape of a child under the age of 13, sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one of common assault.

Prosecutor Johann Fernandez said the charges relate to a series of incidents and continued abuse of an extremely vulnerable child between the ages of nine and 15.

Bell was denied bail by the Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded custody. He is due to appear in the Supreme Court on Wednesday 9th September.
