These follow an incident of Violent Disorder at Glacis Estate last Friday, where seven individuals were arrested by RGP Response Team officers and where bladed weapons were seized.

Aug 03 - Jet Ski Chase Results In Cannabis Seizure

During the early hours of this morning, the RGP Marine Section were alerted by Guardia Civil (COS) to the presence of a suspect jet ski on the east side of Gibraltar. When the duty crew deployed to the area, the jet-ski was sighted loaded with what was suspected to be five bales of Cannabis Resin.

The navigator, later confirmed as Moroccan national Najib GHEZEIL of Tangiers, immediately sped away in an attempt to evade capture. During the chase, GHEZEIL carried out dangerous manoeuvres and managed to jettison two suspect bales. He was eventually stopped and arrested and three bales of suspected Cannabis Resin with a total approximate weight of 100kgs seized.

GHEZEIL was later interviewed and then charged with the following offences;

- Importing a Prohibited Import namely, approximately 100kgs of Cannabis Resin 


- Possession of a Controlled Drug namely, approximately 100kgs of Cannabis Resin 


- Possession of a Controlled Drug with intent to supply another or others namely, approximately 100kgs of Cannabis Resin 


- Dangerous navigation 


- Obstructing Police 


- Non-Gibraltarian found in Gibraltar without a valid permit 


- Jettisoning cargo


- Keeping a radio transceiver without a licence.

He will remain in Police custody until his appearance at the Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.

The Cannabis Resin seized has a street value of approximately £300,000.
