Sep 09 - Local Woman Acquitted Of Assault Charges

A local woman was found not guilty after she stood trial for beating up her partner’s ex-wife at the Supreme Court yesterday.

Elaine Garro, 33, faced two counts – one of grievous bodily harm and one count of assault occasioning in actual bodily harm – for the incident, which took place in November 2012.

Appearing for the defendant, Chris Miles said: “My client is not a criminal, she is a good woman and a woman of good character.”

The jury at the Supreme Court trial waited only twenty minutes before giving a unanimous verdict of not guilty.

Puisne Judge Karen Prescott presided over the case, and Johann Fernandez appeared for the Crown.
