Dec 01 - Gaduzo Exhibition To Open Face Frames Gallery This Evening

Face Frames Gallery will open this evening as from 18:30 with an introductory exhibition presenting the work of local artist Leslie Gaduzo.

Face Frames is run by Sebastian Rodriguez and although Seb and Leslie’s roles in the upcoming exhibition are very different, their pursuit of creative sustenance follow similar endeavours.

Leslie decided to leave his job as an architect a few years ago to dedicate himself fully to his painting. Although he has been painting for over twenty years, his artistic career is now flourishing as he has the time to develop and hone his skill. The organisers say that this ‘introductory’ exhibition is long overdue and provides a unique opportunity to showcase Leslie’s artistic output at a time when Leslie is beginning to enter and, indeed, win prestigious competitions.

This year he has won Best on Show prizes at both the Fine Arts Association Summer Show and National Week Art Exhibition as well as Second Prize in the Gibraltar International Art Competition in 2013 along with numerous Highly Commended Awards in the last few years.

He said: "I am very interested in the idea that paintings can be more than literal interpretations of what we observe. I prefer it when a painting says several things at the same time; texture, colour, tone, and abstraction, rooted in identifiable visual references that are around us every day. A different way of recording what we see, so to speak".

Sebastian’s journey has also been indirect in the sense that running a picture framing shop and gallery is his first project outside the care industry. Although he has not yet taken the leap of ‘painting for a living’, Seb intends to use the space next to the workshop as a studio to produce work and by continuing art lessons at the adjacent Art Centre.

‘’I needed to try something different and the space was an opportunity to do so. I have a lot of people to thank for their input and I am looking forward to using the space as a platform to showcase other artists’ work, as well as my own - eventually!’’ he said.

Seb and Leslie say they are committed to the creative process and are very excited to be able to share with the general public the results of their hard work as from today at 18:30 at 41 D Town Range.
