Oct 30 - “Catharsis” - A New Play By Julian Felice

After a three-year hiatus, Dramatis Personae will be returning to Bayside Drama Studio in November with a production of the new play Catharsis.

Written by local playwright Julian Felice, Catharsis is a dark tale about Paul, a frustrated artist who is on the verge of a psychological breakdown. Unable to sleep, Paul finds himself walking the streets at night, exposing himself to a bleak and dangerous underworld. As he dives further into a self-destructive spiral, Paul takes increasing risks in order to find answers, impacting on the lives of those around him. Earlier this year, Catharsis made the final short-list of ten out of over five hundred entries in the Blue Elephant Theatre Company Play-writing Competition.

A cross between Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting and Franz Kafka’s The Trial, this intense and hard-hitting story is told through a cast of nine actors who remain on stage throughout the performance. Julian himself plays Paul and is supported by an ensemble who engage, interact and even influence the events as they unfold. Dramatis Personae veterans Charlie Bishop, Tim Seed, Kim Soiza and Elainne Perez are joined by well-known actors Davina Barbara and Daniel Strain-Webber, while gifted youngsters Michael Byrne and Lauren McCann complete the cast. The play is co-directed by drama teacher and experienced performer Claire Stagnetto.

This is an active month for Julian, whose published play Mary Jane of Whitechapel continues to be performed internationally, with a production in North Dakota in November. This is in advance of two further original plays which Julian will be entering in the 2015 Gibraltar Drama Festival.

Public performances of the play take place on the 20th and 21st November at Bayside at 20:00. Tickets, priced at £5 (£4 for usual concessions), will be available as from the 17th November, with further details to follow shortly.
