Mar 04 – Art Residency Invitation

Gibraltar Cultural Services on behalf of the Ministry of Culture is inviting applications from local artists who wish to take part in an art residency project.

In connection with the Island Games that will take place this summer in Jersey, the Jersey Arts Trust (JAT) has invited an artist from Gibraltar to participate in a professionally facilitated art residency project. Artists from each of the 24 competing island have been invited to participate, and that they will develop collaborative work around the theme of ‘Islandness.'

The residency will take place from Monday 22nd June to Thursday 2nd July 2015 at Elizabeth Castle, located on a tidal island within the parish of Saint Helier, Jersey.

The project is fully residential, with no artist leaving the Castle at any point during the project.

The Artist Lock-In will be open to Artists of all different, backgrounds, disciplines, art forms, ages and experience.

Participants spend the fixed period of time in this unusual location and are taken through a series of tasks that encourage teamwork and creative thinking. As the period progresses the tasks become more open, until the participants are left to work together to make shared work. A live installation will then be showcased to the public in three ‘performances’ over two days.

Artists will not be paid to take part. The JAT and its sponsors will cover all accommodation, hosting, catering, on-Island transport and facilitation costs. The Ministry of Culture will cover the costs of the flights.

Artists interested in taking part should complete an application form and send it together with a CV (either by hand or via email) to Gibraltar Cultural Services, John Mackintosh Hall, 308 Main Street, T:200 75669 E: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The CV should include a sample of the artist’s work.

Application forms are available for collection from the John Mackintosh Hall, 308 Main Street or via email.

The closing date for applications is Monday 16th March 2015
