Oct 09 - GSD Says Public Are Interested In Savings Bank Statement Of Investments

The GSD has received great interest from the public following the publication of the Savings Bank Statement of Investments at 31 March 2014 and 2015 showing how depositors’ money has been used.

GSD Candidate Roy Clinton said: "We are glad that we published the Savings Bank Statement of Investments in the Gibraltar Chronicle at our own expense. This detailed, and in part complex, information although published in the Gibraltar Gazette, and given in answers to Parliament, was not in general circulation.

"It is incredible that the Government has issued an incomplete set of financial statements for the Savings Bank at 31 March 2014 to depositors and while trumpeting the growth in deposits, has chosen not to explain how their money has been used.”

He adds that the selective use of information by the Government in this way is worrying and does nothing to give credence to their mantra of increased transparency. We will continue to press the Government on this issue and call on the Minister for Public Finance or the Financial Secretary to make a public statement on this specific area of their responsibility.
