Oct 29 - Chief Minister Visits Regiment In Morocco

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, has returned to Gibraltar today after spending a full day on Wednesday with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment on Exercise Jebel Sahara. During his visit the Chief Minister met with the new British Ambassador in Morocco, Ms Karen Betts.

The Chief Minister spent Wednesday visiting the troops on exercise, including the soldiers from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces’ Brigade d’Infanterie Parachutiste. Mr Picardo flew in one of the RAF Puma helicopters which are also participating in the Exercise this year.

The Moroccan Army presented the Chief Minister with a commemoration of Jebel Sahara 2015, emphasising the importance they place on their relationship with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.

On Wednesday evening the Chief Minister hosted a dinner with the Officers and Warrant Officers of the Regiment.

The Chief Minister said: “As usual, I enjoyed my time seeing the Regiment on exercise, combining the trip with an opportunity also to meet the new British Ambassador to Morocco. Apart from being an eye opener each year to the great work done by the Regiment, it is also exciting to see the live firing and this year the helicopter operations being run by the RAF. The Regiment is a source of pride for all of Gibraltar and seeing them exercise and demonstrate what they can do is a good reminder of just what a good job they do."
