Nov 26 - Party Leaders Cast Their Vote After Intense Five-Week Campaign

Both party leaders contesting today’s General Election have voted.

Fabian Picardo, the Leader of the GSLP-Libs voted at around 10 this morning at Central Hall. He was accompanied by his wife Justine.

Mr Picardo said: “This is the usual, peaceful festival of democracy that Gibraltar does so well. We exercise our right to vote more massively than in other places in Europe. Election day is a day that every Gibraltarian enjoys. Even those who want to cast a blank ballot are expressing an opinion.”

He added that he was happy with the campaign his party had run and that he would spend the day working at Number Six and visiting the GSLP HQ to ensure things were running smoothly.

He praised the work of his volunteers: “We have many volunteers who give their time literally for nothing just because they believe in the ideology and principles of our party.”

Casting his vote at midday at the Plater Youth Club was GSD Leader Daniel Feetham accompanied by his wife Julia.

Speaking to YGTV, Mr Feetham said: “I think we’ve dominated and led on the issues. We’ve won the argument and we couldn’t have done more than we have done. I feel we’ve conducted a wonderful campaign and, at the end of the day, Gibraltar will be deciding. I am confident that we can look at ourselves in the mirror and say that we gave it all we had.”

Mr Feetham said he planned to visit the various polling stations across the Rock and talk to civil servants and others involved in the election. He added that he was “looking forward” to the count tonight at the John Mackintosh Hall.
