Nov 27 - Governor Alison MacMillan - "I Am Struck By The Dedication Of All Those Involved In The Election"

Her Excellency the Governor Alison MacMillan is looking forward to swear in the new Government at the Convent in the early hours of the morning.

As soon as the result is known by Returning Officer Paul Martinez, he will be contacting Mrs MacMillan in the early hours of the morning to let her know the result, and the order of the votes for each candidate and then the leader of the party with the most votes will form government and will be sworn in.

Mrs MacMillan has been following this election campaign closely and is looking forward to working with the next administration in power.

She adds: “It is just democracy and I have been following it, but one never knows until the results are announced.”

With regards to the election process in Gibraltar, Mrs MacMillan said: “I am struck by the dedication and enthusiasm of everyone involved, and there are so many people involved.

“Of course there the candidates, the civil servants, the people who have been working with Paul Martinez for so long, security officials, and also the press. But I think credit should also go to the families – everyone is involved, there are a lot of people behind the scenes.

“When Gibraltar arranges something like this, they arrange it in the most perfect way. Smoothly done, coordination is perfect, everyone does their roles, everyone is prepared to stay up late, and everyone will just keep going and it is all done perfectly.”

Solomon Levy MBE JP greeted with the Governor as she was leaving the John Mackintosh Hall. He explained that he has been attending general elections since 1958, and is looking forward to an exciting night ahead.
