Nov 27 - Dr John Cortes "Humbled" At GBC Exit Poll Vote

GSLP-Liberals candidate Dr John Cortes was humbled when told he was leading in the GBC exit poll, but said he should be asked again when they have the results.

He said: “I am humbled. I love my people and if the people show they love me to me it is wonderful, but we are a team and if we get in we are a collegiate government.”

While waiting for the votes to be counted, he said: “Election Day is when the power passes to the people from the Ministers, and at the moment it is still in the hands of the people.

“If elected, because we are not elected yet and we have to wait. The plans for tomorrow morning involve breakfast, and I’ll be visiting my officers to thank everyone for their work.

“If not I’m not elected, I hope I would be elected into opposition, and I would give the government a very good run for the money, but I’d need to find something else to do with my time and I might take up writing.“

The excitement for the day has caught up with Dr Cortes, and said it’s been a long day. He has gone to most of the polling stations to meet with the electorate, and he wanted to say a big thank you to the people working on the campaigns and those who have shown support for his party.

During the last election campaign, Dr Cortes said he didn’t have much experience in politics and when he was elected it was a whole new world for himself.

He adds: “Now I know it’s a lot of hard work, but other than that I’ve had to work as well during the campaign so I was working and campaigning whereas last time I focused largely on the campaign.

“I have left a lot of files and a lot of paper work to be done, so hopefully if people want me back, I’ll carry on working hard for the people.“
