May 03 - Promotions At Gibraltar Fire And Rescue Services

Leading Firefighter Karl Sciortino has been promoted to the rank of Sub Officer.

He joined the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service in January 2007 and upon completion of his Recruit Fire Fighter Development Program at the Fire Service College in UK, was awarded the Silver Axe for best overall recruit. He has since acquired a variety of skills and attended numerous courses locally and abroad.

Mr Sciortino has been instrumental in developing the Brigade’s operational readiness in emergency medical response as the officer in charge of this section.

He is also one of the organisation’s Blue Lights Emergency Driving and Road Traffic Collision instructors, and will be tasked with ensuring the dissemination of awareness courses on safe driving techniques.

A spokesman for the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service said: "We wish Sub Officer Sciortino the best of luck when leading his crews through this new phase in his career."
