Oct 26 - Unite Pushes For More Time To Reply To MoD Cuts Document

Unite the Union says it wishes to update the community on the MoD job cuts issue. The Union says it has requested an extension to the consultation process and can confirm that an extension until the 10th November has been granted by the MoD. However, Unite says that, “due to the serious nature of the matter at hand”, it now requires a further extension “to respond robustly” to the consultation document.

A statement continued: “In pursuance of support, we have made representation to the Unite Ministry of Defence National Committee (NISC) and Unite’s General Secretary, Len McCluskey. A response from our General Secretary has been received as follows:

“On behalf of the Executive Council, I write to express support and solidarity to the MOD workers of Gibraltar who are engaged in a justifiable and important struggle against cuts to the budget, directly affecting terms and conditions and threatening our member’s jobs.” Followed by the statement, our General Secretary offers whatever practical support Unite UK can deliver in solidarity.

“Comrades in the UK also question the timing of these cuts, especially now when uncertainty is at its peak in Gibraltar, with the issue of Brexit and the ever increasing hostile stance of the cross border PP Administration.”
