Apr 15 - Gibraltar's “Booming Economy” Is A Good Reason To Enjoy Easter / Passover Holidays - Picardo

The Chief Minister has said that he has been delighted with the response received from residents of Alameda Estate who have thanked him for writing directly to them in relation to what the Government terms “misleading communications” they had been sent about the fair being transferred to Grand Parade this year.

‘I personally wrote to the residents to address their concerns and a large number have expressed their thanks to me for having taken the time to do so. Unfortunately the Opposition seem to think that communicating with the shareholders of Gibraltar PLC was not a good use of my time. I suppose that marks the difference between them and the Government. I should also remind them that it is quite possible to apply yourself to matters of State and to matters that concern the residents of our estates – it isn’t either one thing or the other.’

Mr Picardo added: ‘One thing is clear now though - the Opposition are happy to talk Gibraltar down. They need to realise that our booming economy is stronger than it ever has been, as the Budget this year will show - no doubt to the extreme disappointment of the members of the Opposition in Parliament who seem to be hoping for Gibraltar to fail. Unfortunately for them Gibraltar is now doing exceedingly well economically on all fronts.’

‘On top of that we are now politically more secure than ever - working closely with the United Kingdom Government to protect our nation against the Partido Popular onslaught.’

‘But, given how this Government has increased its popularity from the general election in 2011 to the by-election in 2013, I guess the only people really groaning are those in the Opposition party who can see that their rudderless and unpopular leadership is not connecting with anyone.’

‘In the circumstances, it seems to me that Gibraltarians have good reason to enjoy their Easter and Passover holidays.’
