Sep 01 - GSD Concerned Over Government's Handling of Hernandez Bullying Inquiry

gsd Following a recent statement by Unite the Union expressing concern over the time frame of the investigation into the allegations of bullying made against Joanna Hernandez, the Opposition has commented on the Government’s lack of comment on the matter. The party insists that they expressed their own concerns ‘as to the manner in which the Government has decided to conduct this investigation and the amount of time it was taking the Government responded that the GSD was just being vindictive by raising these issues.’

They go on to note that the Government has ‘failed to institute an open and transparent investigation into the allegations, with the Union now claiming that it is not only unhappy at the inordinate amount of time the investigation is taking but also the manner in which the trainees are being questioned. In our view this lack of transparency on a matter of such public importance is deeply unsatisfactory.’

The statement concludes, ‘the GSLP-Liberals committed themselves to holding a public enquiry at great public expense, and despite the fact that the result of the Inquiry is not yet known, both Mr Bossano and Ms Hernandez have made it clear that they are not happy at the way the Inquiry has been handled, with Ms Hernandez publicly expressing her discontent with the Judge in the social media. There is a clear conflict of interest involving both Mr. Picardo or Mr. Bossano which highlights the need for this case to have been investigated in a transparent manner from the beginning, ensuring justice is seen to be done.’
