Sep 02 - Government: Daniel Feetham Has “Obsession” With Joanna Hernandez

The Government has said that Opposition leader Daniel Feetham's “obsession” with his “estranged client”, Joanna Hernandez, “seems to know no bounds.”

The Government says that, if Mr Feetham had contacted Unite the Union - which he yesterday accepted in an interview with GBC - he would have found out, it says, that Government has responded to Unite's concerns in relation to the investigation into the bullying allegations made against Mrs Hernandez.

Number 6 insists that Mr Feetham's "Hernandez Obsession" is such, however, that he clearly issued his press release “without having checked the position with Unite.”

Moreover, the Government considers that the work being done by the Chief Secretary's office on this matter is being “handled with care and sensitivity, which is what is required.”

Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said: "I am supportive of the Chief Secretary's attitude that this matter must be dealt with sensitively and quickly; but this is not an issue for me as a politician, it is for the head of the civil service. Mr Feetham seems to be so obsessed with Joanna Hernandez that he has given away how, under the GSD, such matters would involve interference from politicians, contrary to principles of good Government which require the independence of the Civil Service to be observed. The allegations made in this case are serious and must be resolved in keeping with the process established for these purposes. Mr Feetham should know better."
