Oct 02 - Government Mishandling Power Station Issues – Claims GSD
The GSD has hit back at the Government’s attempt to blame them for their failure to commence works on the new Power Station, three years into the tenure in office. The Party has claimed that if the contract negotiated by the previous GSD administration had not bee cancelled, Gibraltar would have a new power station with improved distribution infrastructure.
They added that LNG installation studies had still yet to be completed, with a decision on where to locate the LNG installation still not finalised. With indications form the Government that they were to build the new power station reclaimed land, the GSD insists that no land reclamation ha commenced yet either.
The party continued, ‘while the monthly power cuts afflict Gibraltar, Mr. Picardo continues to spend millions on vanity projects such as his luxury upgrade to No 6 Convent Place. The simple truth of the matter is that the Government has completely mishandled this issue by failing to give it sufficient priority.’
