Nov 20 - GSD: Works At Charles Bruzon House Should Be Halted Until Investigation Completed

The GSD  says it has received reports that a serious health and safety incident has occurred at the site of Charles Bruzon House adjacent to three schools and that the incident has affected Governor's Meadow school. The Opposition says it shares the concerns of parents of children at those schools regarding the safety measures in place. Despite what it describes as “the denial by Government of the incident”, we GSD says it is aware of at least 30 witnesses who claim otherwise. The "dismissive attitude" taken by Government towards these reports “is both unreasonable and of great concern” says the party.

The GSD calls on the Government to institute a full investigation of the incident and to release not only any report produced by officials but any associated health and safety documentation, including site inspections prior to the incident. The public must be reassured, argues the GSD, that the safety of children is not being compromised in any way.

It should be recalled, says the Opposition, that this is the third incident involving Health and Safety in the last six months, following on from the crane collapse at the Aerial Farm site and the objects which fell from a crane at the Coach Park site affecting the adjacent Waterport public area.

A spokesman said: “We believe that works at the Charles Bruzon site should be halted until the outcome of an investigation into this incident has been completed and the public can be certain that similar such incidents cannot occur. We call on Government to take a responsible approach towards dealing with this and restoring public confidence in these and other works where there have been incidents in the recent past”.
