Jan 29 - Dr Giraldi Report Received By Government

The Government has confirmed that it has now received Rt Hon Sir Jonathan Parker's report of the inquiry into the Dr Giraldi Home which was established by terms of reference set out by the Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo in October 2012 under the Commissions of inquiry Act.

The Report runs into four volumes, 16 Chapters and 10 annexes. Sir Jonathan has also provided an Executive Summary. The names of users of the Dr Giraldi Home have been "anonymised" in the final Report.

Upon receipt of the report, Mr Picardo said, "I am very grateful to Rt Hon Sir Jonathan Parker for this exhaustive and comprehensive report into various allegations of malpractice at the Dr Giraldi Home which concerned the Government greatly and which led to the establishment by me of this Inquiry.

"I am grateful also to the legal team that supported Sir Jonathan and to everyone who came forward to give evidence to the Inquiry and their respective legal advisers.

"In the very short time available to me since I have received the Report, I have noted with satisfaction that the Report concludes that any instances of mismanagement, misconduct and malpractice at the Home were infrequent and at the lower end of the scale of this type of behaviour. That was the issue that most concerned my Government.

"I also note the Report’s conclusion that the staff, working in difficult and challenging conditions, have done and continue to do sterling work in the provision of care to those who use the services of the Dr Giraldi Home.

"The Government will now study the report in depth. The entirety of the Report of Sir Jonathan Parker QC will be made public next week at 3pm on Friday the 6th February on the website of the Inquiry itself, by agreement with Sir Jonathan, and on the Government's own website."
