Mar 25 - GSD Calls for UEFA Stadium Clarification
The GSD has today called for the issue of the Government-endorsed Europa Point Stadium proposals to be decided before the next General Election so that the Electorate knows where the GSLP/Liberals stand on the issue.
The party claims that having been over a year since the GFA published their initial proposal for the stadium at Europa Point, then was put before the DPC, there have been no revised plans submitted to the DPC, or alternative sites identified publicly.
The GSD continues to dispute the Government’s claim that Europa Point is the only viable site for the UEFA grade stadium. The party notes that ‘over a year ago, UEFA had, in fact, informed the GFA that a 5,000-seater stadium would be sufficient to allow Gibraltar a classification as a UEFA Category 4 Stadium. The GSD understands that the Government has been informed of this.
They call on the Government to shed light on the matter by either confirming or denying whether they are aware of these views. They further claim that if the information is correct ‘it will be perfectly feasible to upgrade Victoria Stadium to a full UEFA Cat 4 without a relocation of the Cepsa Petrol Station.’
Finally, the GSD wishes the National Football team luck in their match against Scotland this weekend.
