May 22 – Indoor Swimming Pool Used By The Elderly, Youngsters And Disabled To Undergo Refurbishment

The indoor swimming pool used for training purposes by the elderly, youngsters and disabled will be closed on Tuesday 26th May for refurbishment works.

The swimming pool is to undergo internal works, and will have a new dehumidifier and photovoltaic panel system installed.

The Minister for Sport, the Hon Steven Linares, said: “This facility has not received major maintenance works since it was opened in 2006 and as a consequence the current air treatment system is dangerously close to shutting down altogether.

“The new installation will enhance the reductions in carbon emissions that the 25m pool is already producing and will also provide savings in terms of fuel and electricity consumption.

“In addition, no works have ever been undertaken in the changing rooms or actual pool area and these are long overdue. This is one of the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority’s busiest facilities so there is no ideal time to shut it down.

“However, contractors have been given a very strict time frame and the pool will be available for use as per every summer’s arrangements once the hot summer months are upon us.

“The HM Government of Gibraltar wishes to thank the general public for the opportunity to allow us to work for them.”
