May 27 - Department Of Employment And Income Tax Office Go On-Line

The Department of Employment and the Income Tax Office, in conjunction with the Information Technology & Logistics Department, has announced that all employment and income tax related forms will be able to be completed on-line once the new ID cards are rolled out.

The digitisation of forms supports the objectives of Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar to ease the administrative burden on businesses, improve the interaction between the public and private sectors and strengthen the service provided to the public by electronic means.

The on-line functionality will be accessible from the Government’s e-gov website on www.egov.gi and will offer round-the-clock virtual access to the Department of Employment’s and the Income Tax's registration facilities. Over the next few months the Department of Social Security and other Departments will add their e-forms to the e-gov portal. The portal will, in effect, create a one-stop-shop where the public will be able to complete and submit all necessary application forms on-line.

Employers registered with the Employment and Training Board under the Business Trades and Professions Act will be able to register for on-line services. Such electronic registrations will include Notification of Vacancies, Terms of Engagement, Variations of Terms of Engagement and Terminations of Employment. It goes without saying that members of the public who wish to personally visit the Department of Employment and the Income Tax Office to fill in forms that they can complete on-line will still be able to do so.

Commenting on the above, the Minister for Business and Employment, the Honourable Neil F Costa MP, said: “Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is entirely committed to improving the interface between the public and private sector. It will now be possible to attend to employee and business registration on-line at one’s leisure – as a result, entrepreneurs will be able to concentrate on what really matters during office hours: one’s business.

“The continuing modernisation of systems within the Department of Employment will empower officials in their efforts to serve the public, especially, in helping the unemployed seek employment opportunities. The work undergoing to digitise all employment, business registration and income tax office forms, in conjunction with the establishment of the new Office of Fair Trading, which will be launched next month, will mark a quantum leap in our relations with the public and will qualitatively ease a businesses’ administrative burden of complying with its legal obligations.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Easy Payment Gateway, the Information Technology & Logistics Department, the Income Tax Office and the Department of Employment for working with my Ministry to make this innovative service possible.”
