Jun 02 – Governor Issues Statement Following Scrutiny

The Governor of Gibraltar, Sir James Dutton said his decision to resign from his post, as announced last Tuesday, was not made in haste.

This move has come under scrutiny by the Spanish and British media since it was announced.

Sir James said: “My decision to leave this post earlier than has been normal in recent years was not one that I took in haste.  I made the final decision to go in late 2014.

“My decision was taken for personal and professional reasons, wholly unrelated to policy in response to Spanish pressure on Gibraltar.

“The timing of my departure – late September 2015 – was mutually agreed and designed to cause the least disruption.  My announcement, made jointly with Chief Minister Picardo on Tuesday 27th May, was timed to allow the time necessary to advertise and select a suitable successor.”
