Jul 02 – Gibraltar Is Deemed To Be At A Substantial Risk From A Terrorist Threat

Following the recent terrorist events, particularly the tragic event in Tunisia, the Gibraltar Security Council has deemed there’s a substantial level of threat to the Rock.

While noting that there is still no specific or direct threat to Gibraltar, this was by the GSC, which consists of the Governor Sir James Dutton, the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, the Commissioner of the RGP Eddie Yome and the Commander British Forces, Commodore Ian McGhie, who met yesterday.

The GSC keeps the procedures for dealing with security incidents, in particular the coordination that is required, under continual review. It is important that people should remain vigilant and report any concerns to the authorities.

Gibraltar will mark the tragic loss of UK lives in Tunisia on Friday 3 July. Flags will be half-masted and there will be one minute’s silence at 1pm local time to coincide with 12 noon UK time.

To enable all Gibraltarians to pay their respects, the Dockyard alarm will sound to mark the start of the silence. The Police will stop the traffic in Convent Place and available employees from the Convent and No 6 Convent Place will gather outside their respective buildings, accompanied by Commander British Forces.
