Aug 27 - GSD’s Ellul-Hammond Resigns Her Seat – “My Party No Longer Inspires Me”

Opposition MP Isobel Ellul-Hammond has resigned her Parliamentary seat with effect from today.

Mrs Ellul-Hammond had taken a step back from frontline politics when she announced in April this year that she would be taking up employment as the GHA’s Cancer Services Coordinator.

In a letter sent to the Speaker Adolfo Canepa and forwarded to local media, Mrs Ellul-Hammond says that she is resigning her seat in order to allow her to commence her new job on the 1^st September. Mrs Ellul-Hammond cites this as the main reason.

However, in what will be regarded as sharp criticism of her own party, she adds that the GSD no longer inspires her or gives her “confidence for the future.” She ends the letter saying: “I would be unable to cope with another four years of lethargy in Opposition.”
