Sep 04 - GSD's Roy Clinton Steps Down As Private Bank CEO To Focus On His Career In Politics

GSD executive member Roy Clinton has resigned from his role as chief executive officer at a local-based private bank to "contribute more fully to the local political scene".

A qualified Chartered Accountant and Banker, Mr Clinton joined the GSD executive committee in May this year. His former role will be taken up by John Sergeant.

Mr Clinton said: “My decision to stand down on 1 October as Chief Executive Officer of Bank J. Safra Sarasin (Gibraltar) Ltd is purely a personal one and driven by a desire to contribute more fully to the local political scene and pursue other interests.

“I will continue to engage with the Bank in a role as non-executive Director and wish my successor John Sergeant all the best with my full support.

“I also wish to express my sincere thanks to the staff at the Bank many of whom I have worked with since its inception over 10 years ago and with whose dedication and professionalism the Bank’s success has been built.”

A spokesman for the bank said: “The Board of Bank J. Safra Sarasin (Gibraltar) Ltd is pleased to announce the appointment of John Sergeant as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 October 2015.

“Mr Sergeant, a qualified accountant, has over 23 years experience in the banking industry in Gibraltar having held various senior management roles. Mr Sergeant recently served as the Bank’s head of Risk Management and Compliance and his appointment follows a successful period with the Bank gaining the confidence of the Board and staff alike.

“This appointment follows the decision of Mr Roy Clinton to stand down as Chief Executive Officer given his wish to pursue his interest in local politics.

“The Board thanks Mr Clinton for his 14 years of service to the Group, for having helped to establish and develop the Bank in Gibraltar since 2001 and is pleased to advise that he will continue to assist the Bank as a non-executive Director.”
